Issued – Global 80 Lift keel performance cruiser
A blend of elegance and performance in a boat that is easily handled and uncomplicated to sail” was the description of our Windseeker 66ft Touché. This 80ft builds on the owner’s experience gained with the 66 and takes this blend to the next level. A round-the-world capable yacht, displacing 45 tonnes and fitted with a 3.5m lifting keel she has mile-eating performance combined with a spacious interior. Three distinct cockpit areas – a helm/working area right aft, a comfortable lounging/sunbathing cockpit amidship,s and a raised seating/dining area forward by the companionway. With naval architecture and styling by Stimson Yachts and engineering by Gurit, she will be built at MAG Marin in Tusla, Turkey.
In Design – SeaForce 1 29m cat
Another large project in collaboration with Chinese yacht designer, Chris Wong, is this 26m sailing catamaran, also for a Chinese client. Intended solely for coastal cruising and short passage making, the yacht features a folding sea-plane deployed using the main boom, a 6m fast tender in the transom, and a spa pool in the bow. The novel full width cabin on the main deck is Chris Wong’s solution to keeping the overall length down while fitting in the required accommodation. Construction is currently being quoted by a selection of Chinese yards. Design is due to start later this year, with naval architecture, sailing systems and deck layout within SYD’s remit.
Afloat – Big Grin 30ft canting keel racer
To design a high performing 8.5m yacht that would be challenging and exciting for a full race crew, yet also could be sailed safely in shorthanded mode. In addition, the owner (who also helms) is paraplegic and must be appropriately accommodated. The design team – Stimson Yachts and Jo Richards – took their recent Full Pelt X concept and scaled it down for the client’s requirements, maintaining the performance of the canting keel whilst keeping it safe for a number of different sailing modes. The 8.5m’s 30º canting keel provides impressive speed and power, as well as an appropriate balance of initial and ultimate stability, and the ability to right itself in the case of a capsize, something that is of great importance to the client, who is a former para-olympian.
Afloat – EGW36 match racer
Commissioned by Eureka Group World in Dubai, the EGW 36 was conceived as a dedicated match racer for their 1v1 Match Racing event. Developed from our 30ft keelboat design, this 36 footer is somewhat more aggressive in concept. The long, slender, overhanging form is reminiscent of the America’s Cup V5 boats, and shares a deep fin keel and large bulb for exceptional stability. These features, when combined with a generous carbon rigged sailplan, and low wetted area yet long sailing length when heeled, demonstrate excellent all-round performance. With an IRC rating of 1.12 the prototype boats were competitive on handicap at the 2009 Maktoum Trophy in Dubai. Afloat – Pronavia 38 IRC cruiser/racer
Six years after the launch of the first Reflex 38, the design was transformed into the Pronavia 38. Retaining its well-documented speed and stability characteristics, the interior of this IRC competitive boat underwent a complete redesign. Available in two or three cabin versions, and with a choice of shallow draft or race keel, the Pronavia 38 offers twin wheel steering as standard and provides a spacious teak decked cockpit for the crew. The stark raceboat interior of the Reflex 38 has been replaced by a fully fitted interior, built to the highest Swedish standards by skilled craftsmen. The Pronavia 38 is aimed at the sailor who wants to race competitively whilst not forgoing the comfort associated with cruising yachts, and has provided many owners with memorable occasions afloat.
Afloat – Alcedo 56ft lift keel world cruiser
Launched in 2011, this lift keel performance cruiser was designed for a newly retired couple, who were looking for more volume and faster passage-making than their 25 year old 45ft yacht could offer. With the aims of sailing the ARC race, cruising the Caribbean, and an open mind thereafter, the couple wanted a yacht that would provide a fast, stable and reliable platform for their travels, and would cope with a variety of conditions and functions. She has a lightship displacement of 18 tonnes, and full load at 24 tonnes, offering healthy performance for the longer passages. Her generous mast head cutter sail plan and high stability allows her to comfortably reach a 10 knots cruising speed in 10kn of wind and get in to the mid-teens easily. The owners reported after the trans-Atlantic crossing and passages between islands in the Caribbean that the yacht’s performance and handling was all they had hoped for.
Launched – Flushdeck 66ft Performance Cruiser
In the early hours of the morning the second 66ft performance cruiser from MAG marin left the shed to head to RMK Marine to be mated with her fabricated steel lifting keel. Shortly after that, she was launched and the rig stepped. This version is flush decked, her older sister, Touche, having a raised saloon. The project was managed and the interior layout was detailed by Haluk and Murat Suntay in Instanbul. reports and pix from seatrials to follow shortly…..
Afloat – Touche 66ft Performance cruiser
An intelligent blend of elegance and performance in a boat that is easily handled and uncomplicated to sail. These are the key attributes underlying the design concept of the Windseeker 66ft Touché. She was built at MAG Marin in Tusla, Turkey, and was launched in March 2010.Touché can be sailed shorthanded by two or three people for coastal cruising, and is competitive with a racing crew in IRC offshore classics such as the Fastnet, Middle Sea Race and the Giraglia. This 66 footer offers the speed, stability and control that the owner requires for shorthanded sailing, but without turning to excessive systems often found on modern sailing yachts today.
